Dog, Cat, and the Red Bird Play Script

Dog, Cat, and the Red Bird is a play for young actors. One day, Dog and Cat are busy playing when a bird comes along and asks to join them. They refuse the bird because he is different from them. Tree, Sun, and Cloud encourage them play together because everyone needs a friend. This short play teaches children about kindness and acceptance.

Shaneisha Dodson is an award-winning playwright. She holds a BA in psychology, a MA in counseling, and an Ed.S in education. She has been writing and producing stage plays since 2012. Her work has been seen across most of the southern states. In 2017, she won NYC Success in the Arts award for best theatrical presentation. In her spare time, she enjoys writing, cooking, and spending time with loved ones.

CAST OF CHARACTERS

TREE
SUN
CLOUD
DOG
CAT
BIRD
 

TIME: The present.

SETTING: The setting is a front yard. A dog and cat race around a large tree.

TREE:
Today is a beautiful day.

SUN:
The sun is shining bright.

CLOUD:
The clouds are happy.

TREE:
And, there is no chance of rain. Look at all the animals having fun.

(DOG and CAT race around a tree.)

DOG:
I bet you can’t run faster than me.

CAT:
Meow. I bet I can.

(BIRD flies around the tree.)

BIRD:
Chirp. Chirp. Chirp.

DOG:
This is so much fun.

BIRD:
Can I play?

CAT:
No.

BIRD:
Why not?

DOG:
No one wants to play with a bird.
