Excerpt from the play:

CAST OF CHARACTERS

JENNIFER – 12, a seventh-grader who has been accused of gossiping too much
BRENDA – 12, a seventh-grader who challenges her best friend to a dare

TIME: A Wednesday afternoon. Present year.

SETTING: Anywhere on the campus of a middle school. A blank stage.

JENNIFER:
I can’t believe you’re accusing me of gossiping. I never gossip, Brenda.

BRENDA:
Oh, really? How did everyone find out that Courtney and Peter kissed on the hay ride at the Halloween dance?

JENNIFER:
It was the DJ, I swear. He overheard a conversation I was having.

BRENDA:
With who?

JENNIFER:
With a few of my closest friends.

BRENDA:
How many people did you tell?

JENNIFER:
Only six people. But I completely trust them.

BRENDA:
You told six people? That is so wrong.

JENNIFER:
You’re absolutely right. It was actually eight people. I forgot that Oliver’s younger sister was there and so was Ramona…but she knows that I know about the time she cheated on a math test, so she’ll never say a word.

BRENDA:
Jennifer, you have to stop gossiping all the time. I think you’re out of control.

JENNIFER:
Don’t be ridiculous. (She searches in her purse for something.) Have you seen my cell phone? I need to make a few calls before soccer practice.

BRENDA:
I think you have a serious problem. The minute someone tells you something, you can’t wait to message half the universe to tell them all the details.

JENNIFER:
I never do that.
