Shakespeare drama lesson on Elizabethan humors. Watch the video of this lesson here.

Elizabethans believed that a person’s character was influenced by one of the four Humors (or liquids): Blood, Yellow Bile, Phlegm, or Black Bile. The four bodily humors were part of Shakespearean cosmology, inherited from Ancient Greek philosophers like Aristotle. Knowing that Shakespeare and his audiences would have believed this idea, it’s a fun to explore his characters through this lens.

This lesson provides several fun ways to expand your teaching of Shakespeare.

It includes: detailed instructions, discussion questions, three Shakespeare scenes for study, and 4 extension activities.
