The Christmas Cookie Caper
By Jennifer Reif

It's Christmas Eve, and Elfie-the Lead Elf-gathers everyone to review the final checklist before Santa's big journey. The set should feature a kitchen counter where Santa's Baker Elves prepare Christmas cookies. Additional workstations can be included, but the kitchen counter should be the main focal point. Elfie enters first with a clipboard in hand.

Elfie: Alright, elves, gather round! Let's bring it in- We're minutes away from go-time. Let's run through our final checklist before the big night. Eyes up, ears open, and let's make this our best Christmas Eve yet!

All Elves: Cheers

Elfie: Let's start with the toys. Tinsel, what do you have to report?

Tinsel: We have some terrific toys this year! Top tier! Trucks, T-rexes, Trampolines...
Those things are not easy to wrap.

Elfie: Well done, Toymaker. How about you, Sparkle? How is Santa's sleigh?

Sparkle: Ship shape. She's all tuned up. Shiny and shimmery.

Elfie: Good job, Sleigh Mechanic! Rudy, how are the reindeer?

Rudy: Rested. Refreshed. Ready for the journey.

Elfie: Well done, Reindeer Wrangler! Speaking of journeys, Nutmeg, are you ready to navigate?

Nutmeg: Naturally. Never been more ready. By the way, the new moon is gonna look sweet tonight!

Elfie: Speaking of sweet, Buddy, how are the baked goods?

Buddy: Brilliant! Burnt a few early on… but besides that, best batch ever!

Elfie: Great work, everyone! This is exactly what teamwork at the North Pole looks like. Thanks to your efforts, this is going to be the best Christmas ever!

All Elves: Cheers

Elfie: Easy now, we'll celebrate later. There's not much time left before takeoff. Let's get those cookies out here to kick the magic into motion.

Buddy: Coming right up!

(Buddy begins looking for cookies, but the focus remains on Elfie.)

Elfie: For those of you who are new this year, we have a very important tradition here at the North Pole. Before the big night begins, we all gather to celebrate our hard work, and Santa declares, "The first cookie of Christmas!" (Said slowly and dramatically like the famous line in the movie, The Polar Express, "The first gift of Christmas!")

(Elves quietly show their excitement and anticipation.)

Elfie: Now, Buddy, where are those cookies?

(Focus shifts to Buddy, who has discovered the cookies are missing.)

Buddy: They're gone!

Elfie: What?

Buddy: Someone stole Santa's cookies!

All Elves: Lots of commotion

Elfie: Hold on now! Let's not jump to conclusions. Where did you leave them?

Buddy: Right here in this box.

Elfie: Let's retrace your steps.

Buddy: Okay. I gathered all the ingredients. I mixed everything together. I rolled out the dough. Cut out the cookies. I baked them in the oven. I let them cool. I frosted them. I added sprinkles. I put them in this box. And now they're gone!

(All elves react)

Tinsel: Who would steal Santa's cookies?

Sparkle: Maybe they're just lost.

Rudy: Should we all go on a search?

Elfie: Good idea, Rudy. Everyone, search high and low! We've got to find those cookies. Ready, set, go!

(Play a piece of lively instrumental music as the elves search for the cookies. They might enter and exit, crossing the stage. A fun time for creative movement, dance, or physical comedy.)

(Finally, they all return empty-handed except Elfie, who is waiting to re-enter with Eddie.)

Buddy: Any luck?

All Elves: Adlibs: No, Not me, Etc.

Tinsel: What are we going to do? Can you make more cookies?

Buddy: There's no time for that. It takes hours and hours. And I used up all the ingredients.

Sparkle: Maybe Santa won't notice.

Rudy: Won't notice? Christmas cookies kick off the whole event.

Nutmeg: You're right, Rudy. It's a tradition. No cookies. No Christmas.

All Elves: Adlibs: Gasps, Sighs, Sadness, etc.

Elfie: (Entering) Hold on, everyone. We can't let that happen. I think I know what to do.

All Elves: Adlibs: What? Tell us, Etc.

Elfie: My cousin Eddie. (Eddie enters. All Elves look confused) He's the official North Pole Detective. (Elves seem impressed. They didn't know there was an official detective)

Eddie: Nobody goes anywhere until we solve this Christmas cookie caper.

Tinsel: Wait a minute. Do you think one of us is the culprit?

Eddie: We can't rule anyone out.

Elfie: Eddie is here to investigate, so everyone needs to cooperate.

Eddie: Thank you, Elfie. Everyone, please take a seat. Now where is the baker?
