Scene 1: The Forest Gathering

(The stage is set as a vibrant, colorful forest. A group of animals is gathered around a large table with fruits, candles, and traditional Kwanzaa items. Zuri the Zebra stands in the center.)

Narrator:
In the heart of the African savanna, the animals are preparing for a very special celebration. Today, they will celebrate Kwanzaa-a holiday that honors African heritage, community, and unity. But some of the animals don’t know much about Kwanzaa, so Zuri the Zebra has gathered them to explain.

Zuri the Zebra:
Welcome, my friends! Today, we’re going to learn about Kwanzaa-a celebration of African culture and traditions. Kwanzaa lasts for seven days, and each day we focus on one special principle. These principles help us remember what’s important in life.

Kofi the Lion:
I’ve heard of Kwanzaa, but I don’t really know what it means. Can you tell us more, Zuri?

Scene 2: Umoja – Unity

Zuri the Zebra:
Of course, Kofi! Let’s start with the first day of Kwanzaa, called Umoja. Umoja means unity-working together and staying connected as one big community.

(Umoja the Turtle slowly enters, carrying a basket of fruits.)

Umoja the Turtle:
Unity means we support and care for each other, no matter how different we are. Just like how I move slowly, but I’m still an important part of the animal family!

Nia the Elephant:
Unity is important for all of us. When we work together, we can do great things!

Scene 3: Kujichagulia – Self-Determination

Zuri the Zebra:
The second day is Kujichagulia, which means self-determination. It’s about being proud of who we are and deciding our own future.

(Kujichagulia the Owl flies in, perched on a tree branch.)

Kujichagulia the Owl:
It means being confident in yourself and standing tall, just like I do when I fly high in the sky. We all have the power to shape our lives and make our own choices.

Kofi the Lion:
I like that! Being strong and proud of who we are helps us face challenges.

Scene 4: Ujima – Collective Work and Responsibility

Zuri the Zebra:
Next is Ujima, which means collective work and responsibility. It’s about helping each other and solving problems together.

(Nia the Elephant steps forward, lifting a heavy log with her trunk.)

Nia the Elephant:
Like when I use my strength to help build things for the community, we all share the responsibility to make things better for everyone.

Ujamaa the Monkey:
It’s true! When we work together, even the biggest problems seem small.
