This...

12+ characters, flexible casting. Approximately 40 minutes long. Comedy script loosely based on Snow White. Includes songs from the public domain and audience participation.

Snow White is on a mission to earn her Girl Scout badges while the Evil Queen will stop at nothing to remain the fairest in the land. This quirky version of the beloved fairy tale includes audience participation and songs from the public domain. Will the magic go-go boots help Snow White earn her dancing badge? Will her new friend Cinderella help her earn her physical fitness badge? This play was originally performed by college students for young audiences but is a great performance piece for middle and high schoolers as well.

NARRATOR
Once upon a time, when pigs spoke in rhyme and monkeys chewed tobacco, there lived a kind king and queen who desperately wanted a child.

KING
I desperately want a child.

QUEEN
So do I.

NARRATOR
And one day, the king and queen were blessed with a visit from the friendly duck-billed stork.

Knock on the door.

KING & QUEEN
Who is it?

STORK
It's the friendly duck-billed stork.

KING & QUEEN
Come in.

STORK
I hear that you're desperately in need of my services.

KING & QUEEN
Yes, we are.

STORK
Well. Have I got a baby for you? Boy or girl?

KING
Well. I've always wanted a son.

QUEEN
Honey...

KING
And I've always wanted a daughter.

STORK
Well? Which will it be? Boy or girl?

KING
(at the same time as the queen)

Girl.

QUEEN
(at the same time as the king)

Boy.

KING and QUEEN laugh.

KING

(at the same time as the queen)

Girl.

QUEEN

(at the same time as the king)

Boy.

KING and QUEEN laugh.

STORK
Would it help if I said I'm running a special on girls today?

KING & QUEEN
Girl.

STORK
Then I'll be right back.

STORK exits.

QUEEN
I hope she's cute.

KING
All babies are cute.

STORK enters, carrying a Snow White puppet in their mouth wearing a diaper.

STORK
Here ya' go. One baby girl.

QUEEN
Thank you so much. You have made us very happy.

KING
Yes. Very happy.

STORK
No problem. It was great doing business with ya'.

STORK exits.

QUEEN
She's not as cute as I hoped.

KING
What should we name her?

QUEEN
How about "Not As Cute As We Hoped"?

KING
That's not very pretty.

QUEEN
Well... Do you kids have any ideas?

QUEEN

(Hopefully, the audience says "Snow White")

Snow White. That's an interesting name. Do you kids really like it? Okay. Snow White, it is.

NARRATOR
So, the King and Queen named their child Snow White. And it wasn't long until Snow White said her first word...

QUEEN/PUPPET
Blblblblblblblblbl.

NARRATOR
Well... It wasn't really a word. But it was close enough.

KING
Woo hoo! Snow White said her first word! Did you hear that, dear?

QUEEN
Yes, I did.

KING
Say, "Da-da", Snow White. Can you say "Da-da"?

QUEEN/PUPPET
Blblblblblblblb.

KING
She said "Da-da". Isn't that cute?

QUEEN
Yes, it is.

NARRATOR
Not long after little Snow White said her first words, the nice queen became ill and passed away.

QUEEN coughs, and hands the puppet to KING then exits.

NARRATOR (cont'd)
Then the King began a search for a new wife.

KING
(calling) New wife! I need a new wife!
EVIL QUEEN enters from the back of the auditorium.

EVIL QUEEN
Yoo hoo! Back here!

KING
Would you like to be my new wife?

EVIL QUEEN
Does that mean I get to become queen?

KING
Yes, it does.

EVIL QUEEN
Then you got yourself a new wife!

NARRATOR
So the King married the new wife. Only the new wife wasn't as nice as the King thought she was.

EVIL QUEEN laughs an evil laugh.

NARRATOR (cont'd)
And the queen became immediately jealous of little Snow White.

EVIL QUEEN
Can you say "Ma-ma"?

KING/PUPPET
Blech!

EVIL QUEEN
You see. She doesn't like me.

KING
Oh, nonsense. She loves you. Don't you, Snow White?

KING/PUPPET
Blech!

EVIL QUEEN
See.

KING
That's the only word she knows. That and...

KING/PUPPET
Blblblblblblblb.

EVIL QUEEN
That's not a word. I think Little Dew Drop…

KING
That's "Snow White"…

EVIL QUEEN
That's what I said... I think she needs to go to charm school. And I know the perfect school.

KING
Yeah? Which one is that?

EVIL QUEEN
My sister runs one. Aunt Tilly's Charm School.

KING
Well, why don't we give her a call?

EVIL QUEEN & KING
(calling) Aunt Tilly!!!!!

AUNT TILLY enters.

AUNT TILLY
Yeah?

EVIL QUEEN
Tilly, we've got a new student for ya'.

KING/PUPPET
Burp.

AUNT TILLY
Is that her?

EVIL QUEEN
That would be her.

KING
She needs to become graceful, pretty & charming. Can you do that?

AUNT TILLY
No problem.

KING/PUPPET
Burp.

AUNT TILLY
She'll probably grow out of that burping thing. Give her to me. Come to Aunt Tilly...

KING hands SNOW PUPPET to TILLY.

AUNT TILLY (cont'd)
That's it. You're a pretty girl. What's your name?

AUNT TILLY/PUPPET
BLBLBLBBLBLBLBLBL.

AUNT TILLY
That's a strange name.

KING
That's her way of saying "Snow White".

AUNT TILLY
That's a strange name, too. (To BABY) I'll just call you "Tootsie Pop". (To KING) I'll bring her back when she grows up.

TILLY and SNOW exit.

NARRATOR
So Aunt Tilly took Snow White and raised her. And, by some sort of miracle, Snow White grew up into a pretty and charming young lady. And the queen became jealous of the young maiden.

SNOW WHITE enters.

SNOW WHITE
Blblblblblblblblb.

EVIL QUEEN
Dear, we've got to do something about Little Dew Drop.

KING
It's Snow White.

EVIL QUEEN
Whatever. You have always said that I am the most beautiful woman in the land?

KING
You are.

EVIL QUEEN
THINK AGAIN!!!! (Pointing towards SNOW WHITE) Just look at her.

KING
Well, yes. Snow White is very pretty. But not as pretty as you, dear.

SNOW WHITE
(Handing EVIL QUEEN a mirror) Happy Wicked Stepmother's Day!

EVIL QUEEN
What's this?

SNOW WHITE
A magic mirror.

EVIL QUEEN
Oh.

SNOW WHITE
I made it in Girl Scouts.

EVIL QUEEN
You made this?

SNOW WHITE
Uh-huh.

EVIL QUEEN
All by yourself?

SNOW WHITE
Well. My girl scout leader gave me a little help.

KING
Just a little help?

SNOW WHITE
Well… A lot of help. Actually, she had to make it herself. I tried, though.

KING
That was very thoughtful of you, Snow White.

SNOW WHITE
Ah-huh. Go ahead and ask it a question.

KING
Well, all right...

SNOW WHITE
(laughing) No, Daddy. It's Wicked Stepmom's mirror.

KING
Oh, right. Well, dear. Aren't you going to ask your new mirror a question?

EVIL QUEEN
I hope this isn't some kind of trick.

SNOW WHITE
Uh-uh.

EVIL QUEEN
Well, okay then. (To MIRROR) Who is the fairest woman in the land?
