A monologue is a speech delivered by a single character. Sometimes, we ask students to choose a monologue from a published play so they can make acting choices based on the given circumstances of the story. This can be challenging if you don’t have access to a lot of scripts. Another option is to choose monologues from literature. All of the pieces in this collection are pulled directly from books in the public domain. There are no copyright issues when performing them, and all the stories are easy to find in a library or online. You’ll find pieces for all ages from these 12 books:
The Diary of Anne Frank
Anne of Green Gables
Frankenstein
The Hobbit
The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
A Little Princess
Little Women
The Secret Garden
