Fairy tales meet hip hop in this delightful version of Robin Hood. Students can play characters or rappers, and make up their own dance moves to go along with the raps! This play has a lot of flexibility in terms of cast size because you can add as many characters as you like. We have several other short fairy tale rap plays, so some students can play characters in one play, and rappers in other ones, allowing everyone a chance to have a colorful, meaningful part!

SETTING 1: The forest.

In England, many years ago, King Richard the Lionheart left his country to fight in the Crusades. His brother, Prince John, was now in charge and he was not a nice person. He raised everyone’s taxes and made life miserable for them all.

NARRATOR:
His buddy, the Sheriff of Nottingham, threw people out of their homes if they couldn’t pay their taxes. So many people were poor. One man decided to go and live in the forest. His name was Robin Hood.
(ROBIN HOOD enters holding a bow & arrows.)
ROBIN HOOD:
This looks like a good spot. Hmm, it’s dinner time and there are no cafes in the forest. I’ll use my trusty bow and arrow to find something to eat. I think I’ll do a volley of arrows.
(ROBIN HOOD shoots four arrows in different directions.)
LITTLE JOHN:
(0ffstage) Aargh!
ALAN A’DALE:
(0ffstage) What?
FRIAR TUCK:
(0ffstage) Ouch!
MAIN MARIAN:
(0ffstage) Hey!
RAPPERS:
He /sent some /arrows /through the /air,
He /wondered /what he’d /shoot out /there,
He /found some /targets, /it was /true,
But /were not /things that /he could /chew.
(LITTLE JOHN enters, arrow through hat)
LITTLE JOHN:
(removing arrow) WHAT are you doing?
(ALAN A’DALE enters with ukulele, holding arrow.)
ALAN A’DALE:
I just caught this mid-air.
(FRIAR TUCK enters, arrow through sleeve of costume.)
FRIAR TUCK:
What is this for, pray tell?
(MAID MARIAN enters, arrow through basket she is carrying.)
MAID MARIAN:
Who’s shooting arrows around here?
ROBIN HOOD:
Oh, that’d be me.
