The Three Little Pigs Rap

Fairy tales meet hip hop in this delightful version of The Three Little Pigs. Students can play characters or rappers, and make up their own dance moves to go along with the raps! This play has a lot of flexibility in terms of cast size because you can add as many characters as you like. We have three other short fairy tale rap plays, so some students can play characters in one play, and rappers in other ones, allowing everyone a chance to have a colorful, meaningful part!

About the Playwright:

Val Neubecker lives in Perth, Australia. She wrote scripts for a theatre restaurant for 18 years and has had three children’s books published. Her poems, short stories and plays have been published in The School Magazine, also NZ School Journal. She has published five e-books: The Rock, The School Photograph, What a Performance, An Alphabet of Australian Animals, and Santa’s Little Reindeer. ‘Ho! Ho! Ho! & Other Christmas Songs’, features Val’s work as a composer and lyricist. It also includes activities and worksheets to accompany the songs. Val is the Secretary and Poetry Coordinator for Creative Connections, an organization where poets write poems to works of art created by artists with disabilities.

Excerpt from the play:

CHARACTERS:

NARRATOR 1
NARRATOR 2
MOTHER PIG
FATHER PIG
PORK
HAM
BACON
BIG BAD WOLF
RAPPERS (All other students in the class)

SETTING 1:  Inside the pigs’ house.

NARRATOR 1:
Once upon a time there lived a family of pigs; Mother Pig, Father Pig and their three little pigs.

(MOTHER & FATHER PIG enter.)

FATHER PIG:
(rolling eyes) I don’t know about ‘little’.

MOTHER PIG:
You’re right. Our pigs are getting bigger every day and they’re messy, too. I mean, just look around. This place is starting to look like a pigsty.

RAPPERS:
The /little /pigs left /stuff a/round,
All /through the /house and /on the /ground,
For /they were /messy /as could /be
But /that’s the /way pigs /are, you /see.

FATHER PIG:
I think the time has come for them to leave home.

MOTHER PIG:
I agree. When should we tell them?

FATHER PIG:
I think now is as good a time as any.

MOTHER PIG:
You’re right. (calling) Pork, Ham, Bacon!

NARRATOR 2:
Pork came in quickly…

(PORK enters.)

PORK:
Yes, Mum?

NARRATOR 2:
Ham followed a few moments later…

(HAM enters.)

HAM:
Wot?

NARRATOR 2:
and then f-i-n-a-l-l-y Bacon arrived.

(BACON enters.)

BACON:
(yawn) Mmm?

MOTHER PIG:
Now boys, your dad and I feel it’s time for you to leave home.

PORK:
(seriously) Yes, I think you’re right.

HAM:
(doubtfully) Hmm, I s’pose so.

BACON:
(brightly) Alright… party, party!

FATHER PIG:
Well, it’s not always that easy. You’ll each need to make a home somewhere.

PORK:
No probs.

MOTHER PIG:
And you’ll need to find something to work at.

HAM:
(doubtfully) I guess we will.

BACON:
(frowning) Work?

PORK:
We’ll manage, I’m sure

NARRATOR 1:
And so, Mother & Father Pig sent them on their way but not before giving each of them a big hug.

RAPPERS:
They /kissed them /once, they /kissed them /twice,
And /then they /gave them /this ad/vice,
What/ever /in your /life you /plan,
Make /sure you /do the /best you /can.

(MOTHER & FATHER exit one side.)

(PIGS exit other side.)

SETTING 2:  Outside. At the back of the stage is a net on the floor.

NARRATOR 2:
The three little pigs found a place in the forest to build their three homes.

(PIGS enter.)

BACON:
There’s some straw. That’ll do. I’ll use that for my home.

(BACON mimes building the house side stage left.)

HAM:
(sigh) Those sticks’ll be okay for my home.

(HAM mimes building the house center stage.)

PORK:
Hmph! I’m going to do my best and make a strong home, so I’ll use bricks.

(PORK mimes building the house side stage right.)

NARRATOR 1:
The three little pigs finally built their homes and then along came a big, bad wolf. He was carrying a bag and he licked his lips.

(WOLF appears side stage left.)

WOLF:
Ah ha! Three little pigs living nearby; Bacon, Ham and Pork. They sound delicious! I’ll start with Bacon.

RAPPERS:
Now /as the /wolf came /to the /door,
He /checked the /bag he’d /packed be/fore,
A /dozen /eggs the /wolf had /taken,
He /wanted /eggs to /go with /Bacon.
